Physical description

Dark blue glass lustre, similar in form to a vase, contained within a glass dome with separate base. The lustre with dome and base measures 53cm in height and 25cm in width.

The lustre (88/2014-1-1) has a large bowl with fluted decorative rim and a ridge below the bowl. The stem has a central ridge, or knop, and tapers towards the foot. The foot is circular and approximately 2cm in height. Hand-painted decorations in gold, white and blue included geometric patterns, rings, foliate and floral motifs.

The cut glass drops hanging from the lustre are arranged in two layers of seven. The bottom layer is suspended from the ridge below the bowl and the top lay from the bowl. Thick metal wire has been used to create suspension loops and hooks. Each drop measures approximately 20cm and is made up of a faceted glass stone attached to a length of glass with decorative edging concluding in a six-sided point.

The clear glass dome measures 48cm in height and 19cm in diameter. The bottom edge is roughly cut and does not correspond exactly to the base (88/2104-1-3). The turned and varnished wooden base is circular and measures 25cm in diameter and 4cm in height. There are three ball shaped wooden feet with visible central screws. The upper side is lined with pink, or faded red, velvet.
