Vase
Designed by Keith Murray in 1933
Manufactured by Wedgwood
Hand-thrown earthenware
Although this vase was made at the well-known English pottery, Wedgwood, its shape shows how the company embraced design influences from overseas. It was designed by Keith Murray (himself a New Zealander) who trained as an architect in the 1920s when the Modernist Movement was beginning. Modernism was characterised by the kind of simple, functional design and lack of decoration which is evident in this vase.
