Ladder back side chair with two decoratively turned front stretchers and a rush seat. This chair is attributed to Lincolnshire although the maker is unknown. It was probably made c.1800-1850.

Physical description

Ladder back side chair with rush seat & with 4 ladders in back with arched tops & decorative flowing shapes & a central indentation below. Straight turned front legs joined by 2 decoratively turned front stretchers.

Chair back: ladder back with 4 graduated ladders with arched tops & decorative flowing shapes & a central upward indentation below; turned back posts with domed finials

Front legs: turned legs with decorative turned section near seat; legs mortice into square corners of seat frame; 2 ring turning & cup shaped feet
Back legs: plain turned legs tapered at feet
Feet: front: 2 ring turning & cup shaped feet; back: continuous with leg & tapered
Stretcher detail: box form, type FF; triple plain turned side stretchers
Front stretcher: 2 decoratively turned stretchers type III
Back stretcher: double plain turned stretchers
