Ladder back side chair with a decoratively turned front stretcher and a rush seat. This chair is attributed to Lincolnshire although the maker is unknown. It was probably made c.1780-1840.

Physical description

Ladder back side chair with rush seat, 4 ladders in back with arched tops & 2 scrolled central indentations below.
decoratively turned front stretcher type III; regionally specific lower ladder shape & leg turning with pinched or indented foot
Chair back: ladder back with 4 graduated ladders with arched tops & 2 scrolled central indentations below; turned back posts with nipple finials
Splat type: -
Front legs: single ring & concave turned legs with narrowed turned section near feet; scribed line where leg joins seat frame & at top; pad feet with under pad
Back legs: plain turned legs tapered at feet
Feet: front: pad feet with under pad; back: continuous with leg & tapered
Stretcher detail: box form, type EEi; double plain turned side stretchers
Front stretcher: decoratively turned type III
Back stretcher: double plain turned stretchers

Seat: rush seat with wooden edge strips missing
