Best high back smoker Windsor armchair with ash hoop, top spindles, legs and stretchers; alder arm segments, lower spindles, arm supports and splats, and an elm seat. This chair bears the maker's stamp of S. Shaw, a chairmaker active in Leeds between 1879 and 1887.

'Best high back smoker' Windsor arm chair with 2 pierced central splats & an arm bow composed of 3 sawn sections; all legs have replaced, stylistically inaccurate, foot turnings.
back bow tapers into sawn arm; splat in 2 parts
Chair back: high back single bow which tapers & mortices into sawn arm; 4 long tapered spindles either side of central pierced splat; spindles connect back bow & sawn arm
Splat type: central pierced splat in 2 parts with pierced fir tree motifs
Front legs: heavy decoratively turned legs with pronounced lower ring & pear shaped feet
Back legs: heavy decoratively turned legs with pronounced lower ring & pear shaped feet
Feet: pear shaped feet
Stretcher detail: H-form elliptical stretchers with elliptical side stretchers & 2 turned cross stretchers with central ball motif

Arm: arm composed of 4 sawn sections; scroll shaped arm ends
