Brief description

Work box made from stained birch with a hinged lid, lined with cedar and with a compartmented tray. The front is inlaid with marquetry decoration showing two figures by a fruiting tree, with the inlaid motto, 'Head, Hand and Heart'. Designed by Charles Francis Annesley Voysey amd made in England c.1900.

Physical description

A stained birch work box with a hinged lid enclosing a cedar-lined interior with a compartmented tray. The front is inlaid with a pair of marquetry figures flanking a fruiting tree; a man on one side, drawing with a pen, and a woman, possibly knitting. The tree bisects the inscribed motto, 'Head, Hand and Heart'. The base is shaped in a shallow serpentine line, and the box stands on faceted feet. There is a chip to the front right-hand corner of the lid.
