Physical description

Watercolour drawing of the interior of a parlour, with a double or 'through' room in the background. The room has a delicate moulded cornice and wooden shutters. In the front room is a window with bagged up curtains, a Canterbury chest containing books, a chair and a folding table, and an upright piano with an elaborate folded silk panel. To the right is an open integrated cupboard, a fireplace with an overmantel mirror, some ornaments on the mantelpiece and a hearth rug with a cat. The flooring has a geometric design, which may be formed from Brussels carpet or could be a floor cloth. In the centre is a doorway with open double doors, through which a table, two dining chairs and a covered chandelier are visible. The flooring continues into the second room.
