Brief description
Set of twenty six toy soldiers on horseback made from lead, painted in blue, gold, red, white and black, some carrying swords, standards or trumpets, with a lead flag pole painted with the French flag, possibly produced in Germany c.1870-1900.

Physical description
Set of twenty six toy soldiers on horseback made from lead, painted in blue, gold, red, white and black, some carrying swords, standards or trumpets. There is a flag pole, also in lead, with the French flag painted in red, white and blue stripes. Thirteen of the soldiers are complete, while thirteen have lost their bases.
The set includes: three toy soldiers with a blue coat and saddle with red trimmings, plumed hat and outstretched sword on a galloping horse, one with the base missing and one with both the base and the sword missing. Five toy soldiers with a white coat with gold and red trimmings and red saddle, on a walking horse, one with the base and the horse’s front legs missing. Two toy soldiers with a blue coat and red trousers and a black and blue saddle on a walking horse. Three toy soldiers with a red coat with yellow trimmings and blue saddle, pulling a jacket on, on a galloping horse, two of which are missing bases, one also missing the soldier’s head and the horse’s rear leg. Three toy soldiers with a red coat, holding a flag with red and green stripes, on a galloping horse, five missing their bases. One of these is missing the horse’s front leg, one is missing the flag and the flagpole is bent, one is missing the horse’s tail and front legs and the flagpole is bent, and two are missing the flagpole and the horse’s front legs. Two toy soldiers with a blue coat with red trimmings, holding a flagpole with green and red flags, on a walking horse, their bases missing. A toy soldier with a blue coat and saddle with red trimmings, blowing a trumpet, on a galloping horse. A toy soldier with a red coat with yellow trimmings, and a blue saddle, on a walking horse. A toy soldier with a blue coat and red trousers and a black and blue saddle, blowing a trumpet, on a walking horse, with the horse’s front leg missing. A toy soldier with a grey coat and red trousers and blue saddle, sword raised on a galloping horse, the sword bent backwards and the horse’s tail missing. A toy soldier with a white coat with red trimmings, and a trumpet, the base missing. Nine bases separated from their figures.
