Content description
This painting depicts a bridal couple in the centre. The bride wears a lilac dress covered with a cream striped cloak and looks down suggests modest submissiveness. Seated behind the bridal couple a young widow looks on wistfully providing a poigniancy to the scene. To the right there is an open door through which the wedding party can be seen returning from church. The domestic interior is decorated with wallpaper and a patterned carpet and there is also a framed portrait on the wall. The door on the right is partially screened with a portiere (door curtain), and to the left of the picture there is a table set for the wedding feast. The room has a gas light fitting.
