Physical description

Portable television set, with charcoal grey plastic casing and an 18.5 cm wide screen, framed by a silver plastic border. 'SONY' has been inscribed in black plastic, directly below the screen. The screen and surrounding frame protrude from the rest of the television's body. Below the screen, on the left hand side, is a ridged metal knob. This knob controls the UHF pointer. Towards the right hand corner below the screen, there is a larger numbered dial. Running between the two knobs there is a UHF band with the following numbers listed '21 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 69.' Positioned underneath the screen, on the left is a plastic speaker. To the right of the speaker are two vertical white plastic buttons with 'VHF' and UHF' inscribed in black. Set in the lower right hand corner of the television's front is a smaller metal dial, with the inscription above, in cream plastic 'OFF-VOL.' 'TRANSISTOR TV' has been inscribed in plastic in lower left corner. On the right hand side of the set are four protruding buttons, in vertical line, and labelled (from top to bottom) 'V.HOLD / H.HOLD / BRIGHTNESS / CONTRAST.' Below this, there is a switch entitled 'CHARGE' and two plug holes respectively labelled 'RECORDER' and 'EARPHONE'. An aerial, which can be extended, (but has now been broken in half) rests on two prongs, set on the top of the television. The casing on the reverse of the television, extends away from the set, tapers into a small square box, jutting out from the back. The television set rests on four small plastic feet. The front left hand foot is broken, and has lost part of its underside. Attached to the back of the television set is a paper label printed in black and silver with the following text 'TRANSISTOR TV RECEIVER / MODEL 9-306UB / SERIAL NO.20274 /AC 24OV 23W/ BATTERY 12V 15W / SONY CORP/ TOKYO JAPAN.'
