Coal scuttle in the form of an urn, composed of a circular copper bowl, with a rounded bottom, supported on three brass legs. The surface of the bowl has a hammered finish, which becomes smooth towards the bottom. Below the rim is a band of evenly spaced roundels which have been raised from the body of the bowl and have a smooth finish contrasting with the hammering of the ground. Below the roundels is a raised band. There are two brass ring handles attached to either side of the bowl by brass mounts. The mounts' form is reminiscent of strapwork. Each mount is secured by three round-headed copper screws and hexangonal nuts on the inside. One of the screws and nuts has been replaced. The three brass legs are curved and terminate with a knopped foot. They are attached to the bowl with an integral, flat brass plate which is pierced and composed of three lobes. The outer two lobes of each also has three lobes and ressembles a stylised foliage bud. The plates are attached to the bowl by two copper rivets, with unevely faceted heads, one of which has been replaced. There is a monogram and the number `19' impressed into the base of the bowl. The monogram can be read as an `H' crossed by two back-to-back `L's.
