Physical description
The armchair has a part bentwood frame with curved back and arms which end in solid oak supports with roundels. The reeded wood support curves outwards from the roundels and then forms the baluster turned and square front legs ending in bun feet with metal tips on the underside. Behind the wood arm supports the bentwood frame curves inwards to the bottom of the apron to provide extra support. The woven fibre that covers the chair frame and apron is made from stakes or vertical strands which are made of twisted paper around wire. The horizontal strands woven around the stakes are made only of twisted paper.
The woven fibre is painted in the colour 'Dark Jacobean.' Braid in a figure of eight design has been nailed to the bentwood frame to secure the woven fibre edges. The armchair has sprung seat consisting of nine coiled steel springs, within a metal frame which sits within a wood frame. The springs are covered over with brown cotton fabric, with black wool fabric covering the base of the springs. At the back of the chair the two vertical bentwood columns forming part of the frame stand proud of the woven fibre. There is a paper label on the inside of the apron, printed in black on cream. Around the label is a border of black and cream chequers "TRADE MARK/LLOYD LOOM/WOVEN FIBRE FURNITURE/Pats Nos 167, 861, 113, 608, 117, 302, 219, 838/ BRITISH MADE THROUGHOUT BY/ W.LUSTY & SONS/ BROMLEY-BY-BOW.LONDON.E3."
The seat cushion is curved at the back and has piped edges at top and bottom. It is covered in woven cotton fabric with a geometric stepped rectangular design with naturalistic foliage and flower motif. The ground is predominantly in browns and beiges with the foliage in pale blue and dark blue, and the flowers in orange, dark pink and black. The seat fabric is worn and faded except round the sides.
