Rectangular, glass-topped table, titled `Flipper Table', designed by Matthew Hilton in 1988 for SCP. The top is of 12mm toughened glass. It is supported on cast aluminium legs which suggest the form of an acquatic animal's flippers. They have curvilinear sides and are slightly spreading at the base, as if under the weight of the table. Each leg is attached to the top by a bolt which is dropped into a counter-sunk stainless steel disc and passes through the glass into the top of the legs. The glass is buffered by rubber discs above and below and by a white plastic grommet in the hole through the glass. The bolts are tightened using an allen key. The socket for the allen key is fully exposed, forming part of the design of the top. Each bolt is inscribed `.SEP.' and `10.9' either side of the allen key socket. The legs should be fixed at 45 degrees to the corners. The table is sold in flat-packed form for self-assembly.
