Content description
This satirical print is a humourous warning to those 'fishing for compliments'. It depicts two gentlemen in a dining room interior. The man on the left is an clergyman who stands with his chest puffed out with his hands behind his back holding his sermon, he is balding and has a red nose. The young man who stands to the right of him wears a blue dress coat, yellow waistcoat and fawn trousers.
They stand in a room decorated with grey and fawn coloured striped wallpaper with a pink patterned wallpaper fillet around the top and bottom with two matching fabric bell pulls either side of the chimney breast. There is a white fire surround with a blue undulating pattern which runs across the mantel and vertical stretches and a gilt framed overmantel. The central fireplace has a cast iron hob grate and curved green and yellow coloured fender with a pair of fire tongs to the left and shovel to the right of the hearth, and a central fire poker leaning against the grate. There is a blue upholstered sofa to the left of the picture, with cylindrical bolster and a sabre legged chair to the right of the scene. The tripod table which stands next to the chair is covered with a green cloth with yellow trim on top of which are two silver candlesticks with lit candles. The fitted carpet has a salmon-pink background with a geometric pattern and there is also a fringed matching hearth rug in front of the fireplace.
