Barnaby Powell, great-grandson of the founder of Whitefriars, designed this vase in 1932. He had joined the firm as a director at the close of the First World War, but resigned from his position in 1920 so he could work instead as a salaried designer. He was responsible for the majority of the glass designs during the 1930s, including this sea green - the colour name used by Whitefriars - vase with its hand-applied ribbon-trailed decoration.
