Physical description

Shallow bowl transfer-printed with the 'Homemaker' pattern in black on a white ground. The pattern has intersecting black lines crossing the surface interspersed with eight irregularly shaped white panels, each of which contains an image of a 1950s household object. In the central panel there is a boomerang-shaped table, and to the right clockwise the following objects: a plate, small serving spoon and knife, a plant pot, a two-seater sofa, a salt mill, bottle opener and corkscrew, a lamp with an eye and bone design on the shade, and a large serving knife and fork.

The reverse bears the 'Homemaker' stamp; this is the word ‘Homemaker’, with an image of pot plant above and below images of a knife and fork, a corkscrew and a pepper grinder, around this is the text ‘Ridgeway Potteries Ltd / Made in Staffordshire England / All colours guaranteed / 1 Underglaze 67 / and detergent proof’.

There is a label stuck in the reverse of the bowl, with its previous museum number written in pencil.
